Entering its seventh year, PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (KPB) marks a new milestone in supporting national energy sovereignty. This anniversary is all the more crucial given that KPB is currently in a critical transition phase, moving from the construction stage to the operational phase. As key units of the Balikpapan and Lawe-Lawe Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) National Strategic Project (PSN) begin operations, the company further reaffirms its commitment to making a tangible impact on the nation through the spirit of “Impact to Energize the Nation.”
PT KPB President Director Bambang Harimurti stated that this milestone serves as a reminder that every step must contribute meaningfully to the nation and state. He noted that the transition from construction to operations demonstrates the hard work of all company stakeholders in managing this highly complex project.
“Over the course of these seven years, KPB has not only built a national strategic project but has also grown alongside the community and brought benefits to the surrounding environment,” said Bambang.
On its seventh anniversary, KPB continues to strengthen its contributions through various social, health, education, environmental, and community empowerment programs in the areas surrounding its operations, particularly in Balikpapan and Penajam Paser Utara (PPU). This is realized through various initiatives; in recent years, KPB has distributed a total of 8,050 Eid al-Fitr packages and 129 sacrificial animals to communities in the areas surrounding the company.
In the health sector, the “KPB Sehat Bersama” program offers mass circumcision services, breast cancer screening, stunting prevention education, and regular blood drives in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).
Meanwhile, in the environmental sector, in collaboration with the community and local government, the company has carried out the planting of 7,206 tree and mangrove seedlings, provided support for waste management infrastructure, conducted education on organic waste processing through the Omah Budidaya Maggot (OMAYGOT) facility at the UPTD TPAS Manggar, and organized beach cleanup campaigns to preserve the coastal ecosystem.
There has also been an improvement in community facilities through assistance with neighborhood road repairs, the construction of clean water access via boreholes, support for the rehabilitation of educational facilities, the development of places of worship, and the strengthening of public and environmental infrastructure in collaboration with the local government.
Additionally, human resource development is being carried out through the “KPB Mengajar” program at several schools in Balikpapan and PPU, office administration training for people with disabilities in collaboration with the Indonesian Women with Disabilities Association (HWDI) of Balikpapan City, as well as Welder and Security Gada Pratama certifications, aimed at enhancing competencies and creating job opportunities for the community.
He also expressed appreciation to all parties who have been an integral part of PT KPB’s journey over the past seven years.
“I extend my highest appreciation to all PT KPB officers, business partners, shareholders, stakeholders, and the community who have been an integral part of this journey,” he added.
In line with Bambang, Vice President (VP) of Legal & Relations, Asep Sulaeman noted that the development initiatives undertaken focus not only on energy infrastructure but also generate a multiplier effect.
“Collaboration and support from the community have been a vital part of PT KPB’s journey to date. We hope the company’s presence can continue to grow alongside the community and provide sustainable benefits for the region and the nation,” concluded Asep.
