PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (KPB) continues to promote the elimination of stigma and increased health awareness through a health seminar titled “Together Against HIV & TB: Education, Prevention, and Support in the Workplace,” held at the former Banua Patra Cinema.
The event, part of the Health Program, was attended by 128 workers. The seminar focused on expanding knowledge, strengthening awareness, and encouraging early detection of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Tuberculosis (TB).
This issue remains a challenge not only in the workplace but also in the broader community, particularly regarding stigma and low awareness of the importance of early testing. Therefore, raising awareness is key to fostering a shift in perspective and building a more supportive environment.
Asep Sulaeman, Vice President (VP) of Legal & Relations at PT KPB, emphasized that increasing understanding is a crucial step in fostering shared concern.
“With the right understanding, we can reduce stigma and create a more supportive environment. Small acts of care from each of us can make a significant difference in looking out for one another,” he said.
Featuring speakers from Pertamina Balikpapan Hospital (RSPB), Dr. Rudy Mokodompit, Sp.PD, Sp.KL, and Dr. Awaluddin Andy Mulyadi A, Sp.P, the seminar presented comprehensive material ranging from prevention and early detection to treatment. The event also included interactive discussions as well as pre- and post-tests, with the top three participants receiving recognition.
One of the seminar participants, Achmad, noted that the event provided a new perspective. “This isn’t just about health, but also about care and empathy. With the right understanding, we can support one another and create a healthier environment,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Yogi, a representative of the Indonesian Tuberculosis Eradication Association (PPTI), commended KPB’s initiative in bringing health education to the workplace.
“This event demonstrates the company’s commitment to raising health awareness. We hope programs like this will continue and have a positive impact, both in the workplace and within the community,” he concluded.
